General Motors Design Selects TARUS to Supply 5 Axis CNC Clay Milling Equipment for the new Design West Expansion
TARUS is pleased to announce that we have been selected by General Motors to supply 5-axis CNC milling machinery for their new 360,000-square-foot Design West Expansion being constructed at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
GM’s new Design West facility will feature 38 of the TARUS 5-axis LCMT towers and 3,220 linear feet of linear motion track for the towers. GM carefully specified these machines and the TARUS CNC/CAM software for their clay model sculpting process. TARUS and GM’s industrial design team worked closely to optimize the exterior shape and finishes of the machines, creating a unique aesthetic for the equipment that will be installed at Design West.
TARUS has been the preferred supplier of clay milling machines to General Motors for since 1984. In cooperation with General Motors, TARUS invented the first purpose-built CNC clay model milling and measuring machine in 1984 when the term “Claymill” was coined.
