TARUS hosted the Square One Network for a facility tour with STEM teachers from Macomb County to learn about the tools, skills, and technologies used at companies like TARUS.
Square One Network's mission is to “Develop the next generation technical workforce by empowering teachers with real-world resources and engaging students through authentic hands-on, project-based learning”
The facility tour focused on showing instructors the actual technologies, tools, and skills needed to be a success employee at TARUS.
Instructors were given an overview of TARUS company history, operations, product lines, and corporate capabilities before going on the tour. Lots of ground was covered: On the tour, instructors explored engineering design, engineering research & development, machining, quality, paint, waterjet, fabrication, welding, electrical, facility management, metrology, sub-assembly, and final assembly.
Gordie Culver, Program Manager for Square One Network stated: "Thank you so much for your hospitality. We heard lots of comments from teachers about how they didn’t know that there were any companies in Macomb County that were world leaders in manufacturing so lots of eyes were opened. Thank you for being a big part of that."
George Cook, Vice President of TARUS stated: "The goal is to show instructors the different skill sets entry level employees need to be successful at a company like TARUS. They take that knowledge back to the classroom to improve their instruction and teaching to ready the next generation of our workforce. Being vertically integrated, TARUS is able to show them a large array of job types that other manufacturers can't. What was most surprising for instructors was that soft skills are often times more important than hard skills. Students need to know that being a good communicator, critical thinker, team player, troubleshooter, and leader is what will get you promoted at TARUS."
