The revolutionary all-electric GMC HUMMER EV Pickup and GMC HUMMER EV SUV supertrucks are General Motors' flagship models in the EV space. TARUS machines helped produce many of the components in the new GMC HUMMER EV, as well as being instrumental in producing parts and components for a huge majority of cars, trucks, crossovers, and SUVs driving on American roads today.
With decades of experience in the automotive industry, TARUS machines are involved in many aspects of automotive production from tooling and body components for vehicles such as stamping dies, compression molds, die cast dies, injection molds, assembly fixtures, parts inspection (CMM), milling, and gundrilling. The growth of electric vehicles have fueled a wide variety of new applications, such as using TARUS CNC machines to mill aluminum profiles used for battery skateboards.

Car and Transportation Design
One of the most important aspects of achieving the final shape and form of a vehicle that goes into production is taking the idea from the drawing board to a clay model. TARUS invented the claymill and remains the world leader in car and transportation design studio solutions worldwide.
Body in Black
The body in black process has a similar function to body in white (BIW), but is utilized for vehicles constructed of alternative materials such as carbon fiber composite.
Body in White (BIW)
In automotive sheet metal development, the body in white phase is where the final contours of the car body are worked out in preparation for the ordering of the expensive production stamping die. Highly complex, precision fixtures and jigs are utilized to verify that the prototype and final production sheet metal panels fit together correctly.
Blow Molds
A plastic preform is heated and filled with pressurized air inside a mold, and the resulting shape is the the container or vessel for fluids. Common applications are gas tanks, reservoirs for coolant and power steering fluids, ducting and tubing.
Compression Molds
Compression molding is a forming process where plastic material is placed directly into a heated metal mold then is softened by the heat and therefore forced to conform to the shape of the mold, as the mold closes. Compression molding applied to automobile and heavy truck body applications typically refer to SMC or Sheet Molded Composites.
Diecast Dies and Components
Die casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is forced into steel molds. The advantage of this process is the accuracy and repeatability compared to traditional pour casting. Die cast automotive components include aluminum transmission cases, bell housings, suspension components, and bulkheads. TARUS machines are utilized in the production of the die cast die as well as machining the cast aluminum components.
Exterior Master Fixtures/Cubing
Exterior master fixtures are precision fixtures similar to those used in the body-in-white process with the added ability to attach add-on parts, such as headlights, molding, trim pieces and grilles.
Forging Dies
Forging dies are consumable tooling used in the process of manufacturing highly durable automotive components such as connecting rods, crankshafts, differential gears, and steering arms.
Hydroforming
Hydroforming is a specialized type of die forming that uses a high pressure hydraulic fluid to press room temperature working material into a die. Hydroforming allows complex shapes with concavities to be formed, which would be difficult or impossible with standard solid die stamping. Hydroformed parts can often be made with a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio and at a lower per unit cost than traditional stamped or stamped and welded parts. Virtually all metals capable of cold forming can be hydroformed, including aluminum, brass, carbon and stainless steel, copper, and high strength alloys.
Injection Molds
Injection molding is a manufacturing process where melted plastic is forced under pressure into steel or aluminum molds. These molds are cooled by liquid to solidify the part.
Parts Inspection/CMM
Stamped and molded components are measured using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) after forming and before assembly to ensure quality and precision.
Production Assembly Fixtures
Production assembly fixtures are used to assemble automobile bodies and interior components. These highly precise gauges and jigs are assembled from machined components and then verified by CMM.
Prototype/Low Volume Stamping Dies
Prototype stamping dies are used for body development, and building vehicles used for crash testing. CNC machines are used to mill precise contoured surfaces into the Kirksite prototype stamping die.
Stamping Dies
Stamping dies are used to form steel and aluminum body panels, chassis components and other automobile and vehicle components.
Tire Molds
The TARUS UNIMAX series are ideal for milling engraved tire tread molds due to the universal milling head and rotary table configuration.
